Volkswagen’s halo vehicle – the Touareg V8 TDI R-Line –shares the Bentley Bentayga’s 4.0-litre twin turbo diesel, along with the Audi SQ8 and others in the VW Group.

This beating heart pumps out 310kW and a stunning 900 Nm at just 1750rpm. Driving all four wheels through the 4motion system and a ZF 8 Speed auto transmission. ADR fuel use figures are about 7.5L/100K but we averaged 10.1l/100k over our weeks driving.
It will run from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds, that’s Golf R territory and faster than many Porsche Cayenne’s.
The real key to the Touareg is how easily it will potter around town with a calmness that belies its stunning performance capabilities. It provides a level of comfort that makes you want to jump in and drive a 1000km and enjoy the drive while arrive feeling totally relaxed.
The Touareg V8 is priced from $136,490 plus the usual costs and is fully equipped in R-line specification, including standard Night Vision, Sound and Comfort, and Innovision packages, the only options are colour or a moonroof.
So is the V8 Touareg R-Line worth the money, absolutely it is, in fact it’s a performance bargain.
