Building Ideas: Custom Garage for Your Supercar

2019 Jaguar F Type P380 R Dynamic front 2

Once you come into possession of a supercar, the next thing to consider is the garage – or what type of equipment will you need in it? After all, a supercar should only have the best, shouldn’t it?

Well, let us tell you – this is a tough decision to make. There are just so many accessories and tools designed for a garage that choosing the right ones can be a real pain.

If you’re also facing this problem, don’t worry – we got you. Along with our friends from A1 Garage Door Repairs in New Mexico, we created this list of improvements that you can add to your garage in order to make it more lavish. Want to find out more? Then stay with us.

Air Compressor

If you were considering investing in an impact wrench, then investing in an air compressor is a must – after all, it needs to be powered by something. Adding one to your garage equipment will open up the world of pneumatic tools, not to mention that it can also be used in several different ways, such as blowing away the dust or powering paint spray guns.

What’s more, most models on the market are pretty reasonably priced, which means that even if you don’t have a fortune to spend, you can easily add it to your garage.

Torque Wrenches

A torque wrench is one of those tools that every good home garage should have – preferably in a couple of different sizes. While there are a few types of torque wrenches, the most popular ones are beam and click ones:

  • Beam torque wrench – features a gauge that shows the current strength being enacted on the nut
  • Click torque wrench – allows you to set the desired value, and will make a clicking sound once that value is met.
  • Electronic click-style torque wrench – allows you to set the desired value using a series of buttons and an LCD display; will make a beeping sound once the value is reached.

Vehicle Lift

It doesn’t matter how much you enjoy getting dirty in your garage and working on your supercar – crawling under it to get things done can be a real pain. That’s exactly why almost all professional mechanics use vehicle lifts.

So, how much exactly does it cost? While the price depends on the model and type of lift you want to buy, in most cases, it will be anywhere between $1,600 and $3,000. Even though it’s not the cheapest piece of equipment – trust us, you will be thankful that you made this investment.

Floor Jack

Even if you decide to install or already have a vehicle lift, it is always a good idea to keep a floor jack on hand, as instead of lifting the entire car, you can just lift one corner. This is extremely helpful if you are, for instance, chasing a clunk in the suspension coming from a specific corner of your vehicle or checking for a tire puncture.

Remember – floor jacks are there to help you lift your car quickly whenever necessary, but everything needs to be done safely, which is why you have to follow the safe operating procedures, which include:

  • Lifting your vehicle on flat and level ground
  • Using a jack stand and wheel chocks to stabilize your vehicle

Hydraulic Press

While this is not something you usually see in a home garage, it is definitely a good investment if you have the place to fit it, as it will save you the trouble of hauling parts out to a local automotive workshop to have them either taken apart or put back together.

Hydraulic presses are, without a doubt quite bulky pieces of equipment, but they aren’t crazy expensive – you can find some for as low as $250. Plus, you can always buy a used one if you don’t feel like purchasing a brand new one.

Engine Hoist

This is another tool that is seldom present in home garages but is definitely worth having. With an engine hoist (and help from one or two friends or family members), you will be able to separate your car’s engine from the body in a much more manageable manner.

However, remember that once you take it out, you need to have somewhere to place it, which is why, along with an engine hoist, you should consider purchasing an engine stand. With certain vehicles and repairs, it is wiser to pull the engine, saving yourself from backaches or busted knuckles, which means that you might be using this machine a lot more than you think.

Pressure Washer

When it comes to washing their car, people have different preferences – some enjoy doing it by hand with a bucket of soapy water and a wash mitt, some rather run it through a drive-thru wash, while others just can’t be bothered to wash their car at all. However, by keeping your car clean, you are helping keep it in good condition in the long run – especially when it comes to areas exposed to salt during the winter months.

One of the tools that can make this process much quicker and affordable is a pressure washer. What’s more, you can use it for many other things – not only cleaning the exterior of your car. For instance, you can blast the engine bay down with it, which can help find any leaks. Additionally, you can use it around the house – for example, to clean the driveway, spray off a wooden deck, or wash the windows.

The Bottom Line

If you look at today’s market, you will notice that there is a lot of garage tools to choose from for your garage – and by a lot, we mean A LOT. There are so many that choosing which ones to add to your collection can quickly become overwhelming – especially when it comes to building a garage for a supercar, as you probably only want the best.

However, we hope that after reading this article, you will have a clearer idea of what you actually want and need and will be able to easily decide which pieces of equipment will be the most suitable for your custom home garage. Good luck!
