We drive the WRX Sportswagon on a road test review

Subaru WRX has been exciting bang for your buck buyers for nearly thirty years and the latest fifth generation WRX has just been launched and it’s the best yet.

2022 Subaru WRX - TS Sportswagon.

It’s an all new model based on the brilliant Subaru Global Platform which is quieter, smoother, tighter and more responsive than before.

2022 Subaru WRX - TS sedan.

Key highlights are

  • There are two body styles, the traditional sedan and a new sportswagon version.
  • All models get a new 2.4L turbo boxer engine that produces 202kW and 350Nm from as low as 2000 rpm.
  • There is a choice between a revised short shift 6 speed MT and a smooth and responsive 8 speed Subaru Performance Transmission with drive mode, that maximises the performance of the WRX
  • A new cockpit design features an intuitive layout with highly visible and readily accessible instruments and controls
  • Models feature the vertical central screen that first appeared on the Outback.

2022 Subaru WRX - TS and RS sedan.

Pricing is from $44,990 through to $57,990 plus the usual costs.

The pick for me is the top spec tS Sportswagon version that gets all the EyeSight safety features as well as  get Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-Drive), Intelligent Driving Dynamics and Drive Mode Select.

This is the WRX that the family can buy and love.
