Electric vs Diesel A tale of two cars

should i buy an electric car

Electric vs Diesel – With the continual push towards electrified vehicles, its often best to sit back and ask yourself if buying an electric car suits your lifestyle.

Electric vs diesel

I’ve always been an advocate that a car brings freedom, convenience and enjoyment to its owner. Its an extension of your lifestyle.

Now not every one agrees with me, many are more pragmatic and a car merely provides a means of transport.

There are major differences between choices of cars available. This was clearly demonstrated by two cars we had last week. One was a pure electric sedan, the other a diesel SUV.

Both were exceptionally comfortable to drive with the usual luxury, comfort and safety features. But both served completely different purposes.

The electric car had  about 400km range which lasted a few days around town and then we either had to find an available public fast charger or charge at home. The first proved difficult to find one that was free or working. The second option was frustratingly time consuming. We had to plan our life around charging the car.

The other SUV had a range of some 1300km and economy of around 7.0L/100K. When I needed to refuel I simply drove into a petrol station. Five minutes later I was on my way again for another 1300km. Filling the car fitted into our lifestyle

No matter what the government or manufacturers are pushing I believe you should always buy a car that suits your lifestyle?
