BMW confirms pricing for the new, enhanced BMW 1 Series range

BMW Group Australia has confirmed pricing for the new BMW 1 Series range ahead of its Australian launch in June this year.

Starting from $36,900 plus on-road costs for the entry-level BMW 118i, the new BMW 1 Series represents more than a mere design revamp, as standard specification is significantly enhanced and benchmark technology is included across all variants.

With Rear View Camera and ConnectedDrive Real Time Traffic Information now included as standard, the new BMW 1 Series offers greater substance through-out the entire model line-up.

Sport line is included with the BMW 118i, BMW 118d and BMW 120i, while the BMW 125i now arrives with M Sport package, also as standard.

The arrival of the mid-cycle update also initiates a revision of model designations, with an increase in output and specification resulting in the former BMW 116i becoming the BMW 118i, while the previous BMW 118i has now been rechristened as the BMW 120i.

The BMW 1 Series 118d retains its current model designation, and has been realigned with its petrol equivalent.

Among the highlights of the new BMW 1 Series range is the BMW 125i, now equipped with M Sport package, bolstering the dynamic hatch with M Sport Brakes, M Sport Suspension, M Aerodynamics Package and 18-inch light alloy wheels.  The range-topping BMW M135i remains the flagship model for the range.

Boasting perhaps the most comprehensive mid-cycle facelift in recent BMW history, the new BMW 1 Series reinvigorates the popular compact hatch, its aesthetic design drawing inspiration from models spanning the brand’s broad product range.

Devised by Australian-born BMW designer Calvin Luk, the facelift emphasises the sporting origins of the BMW 1 Series, whose rear-wheel drive architecture makes it unique within its market segment.

With a revised front end, and athletically styled, new rear, the new BMW 1 Series reflects the dynamic potential of the model, with its sharp ride, precise handling and eager performance characteristic of vehicles bearing the iconic roundel.

BMW Group Australia Head of Product and Market Planning Shawn Ticehurst, expressed his excitement at the highly anticipated arrival of the revamped junior sibling of the BMW family.

“There has been no shortage of enthusiasm following the unveiling of the new BMW 1 Series range, and we are confident our pricing will further fuel demand for this exciting car.

“We are particularly excited by the Australian influence which has helped shape the new model, with Sydney’s Calvin Luk delivering an enthusiastically received facelift of an enthusiastically performing car.”

Having sold over 560,000 units globally since its initial unveiling in September 2011, the second generation BMW 1 Series has proven a barnstorming success for the brand, driving sales of the model past the two million mark.

The model enjoyed its greatest ever full year sales result in Australia during 2014, delivering over 2,300 units.

Scheduled for release in June, the new BMW 1 Series follows on the heels of the recent introduction of the all new BMW X6, the first ever BMW 2 Series Convertible and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, and the astonishing second generation BMW X5M and X6M.

Its arrival further bolsters a model range designed to deliver choice and flexibility to consumers demanding the prestige and performance of a BMW.

All maintenance requirements for the new BMW 1 Series will be controlled by BMW’s Condition Based Service (CBS) program, which identifies the condition of a vehicle based on actual use, ensuring each BMW is always in first rate running order, and at the same time, minimising costs.

Under the CBS system, sensors and advanced algorithms monitor and calculate the conditions in which the vehicle is used including mileage, time elapsed since the last service, fuel consumption and how the vehicle is driven. The information captured is used to determine the vehicle’s maintenance requirements, identifying that either an annual vehicle inspection or an oil service is due.

In addition, BMW service and selected maintenance costs can now be covered by a single, one-off advance payment with BMW Service Inclusive (BSI).

BSI offers two packages: BMW Service Inclusive Basic provides scheduled servicing cover, while BMW Service Inclusive Plus combines scheduled servicing and selected maintenance items. Based on individual lifestyle needs, a year range and kilometre option is selected, starting from three years/60,000kms.

The BSI plan provides a long-term solution enabling cover to be extended and transferred to future vehicle owners before expiry.
