Wagons fight back against the SUV surge.

With the increasing dominance of SUVs in sales figures it’s good to see some wagons still available on the market. VW has just released the Passat 206 TSi 4 motion R Line wagon. A mouthful for a lot of car.

2021 Volkswagen Passat 206TSI R-Line The Passat is an excellent, spacious family wagon with good performance for spirited driving along with AWD safety and handling.

VW has other Passat wagons as well as a Golf 8 variant coming in 2022. Also the Arteon is coming in two shooting brake versions soon as well. .

Other wagons worth looking at are the Peugeot 508 GT, a beautiful long distance cruiser packed with luxury and comfort features, such as heated and massage seats, the Mazda6 wagon, again a premium offer typical of Mazda and perhaps the best of them all the Audi RS4 Avant. Stunning performance, luxury and comfort in a beautiful wagon body.

The RS 4 Avant comes equipped with Matrix LED headlights, and all models have the Coming Home and Leaving Home feature, whereby a dynamic light sequence plays in the headlights and rear lights when the car is locked and unlocked.

The Audi RS Avant is powered by a 2.9-litre TFSI V6 engine with twin turbochargers, developing 331 kW driving all four wheels through the QUATTRO system and an eight speed tiptronic transmission.

This is good for a 0-100kmh time of 4.1 seconds.  and a governed top speed of 250kmh. Not that we can explore those speeds in Australia.

Its comforting to know that the wagon remains available for buyers that are looking for space and practicality, more than you get in an SUV and there is still a reasonable choice available
