  • Bentley trainees support in building, testing and competing
  • Schools from across the UK to participate at Goodwood Motor Circuit in July

Bentley Motors is supporting local primary school, Leighton Academy in Crewe to prepare and compete in the national IET Formula Goblin competition, organised and run by UK charity Greenpower Education Trust.

Bentley trainees – made up of apprentices, graduates and undergraduates from across the business – are offering their expertise to help students build, test and drive their electric car. During the competition, students will be measured against creativity of body panel design and race times.

The event, named ‘Gathering of Goblins’ is to be held on 21 July at the famous Goodwood Motor Circuit and will see over 80 teams and 500 primary school students from across the UK gather and compete. Graduate trainee Lily Hughes from Bentley Motors, who worked closely with students to develop the car, said:

“This is a fun project to work on alongside a team of engaged, committed and creative students. Of course for many this was their first experience of car development and we have all been really impressed by their eagerness to learn and ingenuity and we can’t wait to see how the car competes next month.”

Julia Teale, Skills Development Manager at Bentley, commented: “Bentley has been a supporter of Leighton Academy and Greenpower for a number of years. We are keen to encourage young children to engage in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects, and also develop the skills shared with our own trainees including project and time management, and collaboration – skills so very important for a successful future career.”
