Four-wheel drives were the image leaders of tough adventure vehicles.

Now they have morphed into family SUVs.

So utes are taking on some of the macho mantel. The Toyota Hilux rugged X, Ford Ranger Raptor the Chinese LDV trail blazer are modern hero utes.

Now the latest Mitsubishi Triton has a much larger nose with big pod like structures at the edges of the bumper bar line.

Add to that More safety features, and good off road and towing capabilities but the diesel is a bit noisy.

The single cab work horse starts at $22,500 and the dual cab starts at 36,300 plus on road costs
