The jury has announced the winners in each of this year’s six categories. These vehicles represent excellence in their segments based on safety, driving, comfort, technology, design, efficiency, impact on the environment and value for money.

This is the thirteenth edition of the awards presented a team of 63 women motoring journalists from 45 countries on five continents. It is the only all-female jury in the automotive industry.

The results this year are

Best Urban model – Kia Niro

Best Family SUV – Jeep Avenger

Best Large Car – Citroën C5-X

Best Large SUV – Nissan X-Trail

Best Performance Car – Audi RS3

Best 4X4 – Ford Ranger

These six winners now announced will go through to the final round of judging to determine the winner of WWCOTY’s top award. The Women’s World Car of the Year winner will be announced on the Women’s World Car of the Year YouTube channel at 00:00 (New Zealand time) on 8 March, International Women’s Day. Stay tuned!

Some more background

The jurors’ work has been marked by an industry evolution towards more efficient and sustainable models. The challenge faced by the jurors this year was even greater than in previous years due to the excellent quality of all the candidates. No vote was given at random. They have all been subject to demanding driving tests, detailed analysis and careful comparative assessments.

The result is six unbeatable models, six cars that represent excellence in their category, automobiles that deserve one of the Women’s World Car of the Year awards.

As in previous years, the voting process has been verified by auditors Grant Thornton, who have been involved in scrutinising the votes since the establishment of the Women’s World Car of the Year.

Kia Niro. It’s spacious, practical, safe, easy to drive, with several eco-friendly powertrains available (HEV, PHEV and BEV) and very low fuel consumption.

Jeep Avenger. Jeep’s first 100% electric vehicle has a very successful design and excellent off-road capability despite being front-wheel drive.

Citroën C5 X. It offers exceptional comfort, very good roominess and a very attractive design. Available with petrol and plug-in hybrid engines.

Nissan X-Trail. This is a large SUV with plenty of interior space and the option of seven seats. It is efficient in difficult terrain and is offered with Nissan’s e-power technology, a a hybrid solution in which the electric motor is the only engine that works as a propulsion system thanks to the energy provided by a petrol engine to the battery.

Ford Ranger. This is a reliable, stylish and charismatic pick-up. It moves with ease over any terrain. It’s as efficient as an off-roader, but more practical thanks to its cargo box.

Audi RS 3. A very sporty model that incorporates all the technology that Audi has developed in circuit racing.

About Women’s World Car of the Year

Women’s World Car of the Year is the only car awards group in the world comprised exclusively of women motoring journalists. It was created by New Zealand motoring journalist Sandy Myhre in 2009. She is Honorary President while Marta García is Executive President.

This unique award aims to recognise the best cars of the year and to give a voice to women in the automotive world. The voting criteria are based on the same principles that guide any driver when choosing a car. The jurors do not select a ‘woman’s car’ because cars are not gender specific. Aspects such as safety, quality, price, design, ease of driving, benefits and environmental footprint, among others, are considered when casting the votes.

However, beyond choosing the best cars of the year, our goal is also to give visibility to women in the automotive world and to contribute to making women’s voices heard on all continents because mobility for a woman means access to many personal and professional possibilities.
