Quick driving impressions

Given that the only changes really is the introduction of the 1.9L engine, lets chat about how that drives.

First up let me say that the 3.0L with 140Kw AND 450Nm of torque is good, but my view is more performance is always better. We have chatted numerous times about that motor and its ability to tow heavy loads economically.

Now to the new 1.9L engine that has been in the D-Max for a few years now.

You can  notice the difference, there is no denying that. But for many drivers the smaller engine will be enough. It will still tow 3000kg and has a wide torque band starting from around 1,500 rpm through to about 3,700 rpm.

This makes for relaxed cruising and its still fairly responsive. If you are towing a smaller camper trailer or jet skis, but still want the larger sized Wagon, then the 1,9L engine may be a good choice for you.

It retains all the excellent off road and on road qualities of the larger engine MU-X. Its a bit lighter in the front end as the engine is lighter, but it has a marginal effect.

Having a choice of engines is good for many buyers. That’s the beauty currently. Buyers have a choice. Lets hope  it stays that way.

My fear is that eventually the 3.0L engine will be phased out and we will be left with the smaller engine only, thanks to the governments draconian NVES protocols.

Arriving  at local IUA Dealers from 2nd April 2024, the 2024 MU-X range will, for the first time, offer customers the choice of two turbo-diesel engines; Isuzu’s venerable 3.0-litre 4JJ3-TCX with 140kW/450Nm and the quiet and efficient RZ4E-TC 1.9-litre with 110kW/350Nm.

Both four-cylinder engines are paired exclusively to an Aisin six-speed automatic transmission, with 4×2 or 4×4 drivetrain options available. Returning combined cycle fuel economy of just 7.4L/100km, the 1.9-litre engine will be available in three variants. The LS-M 4×2, LS-M 4×4, and LS-U 4×4.

Positioning the new engine option as the pragmatic choice of motorists who value affordability, efficiency, and capability.

2024 Isuzu MU-X value for money

For 2024, the MU-X range continues to offer the same high-level of standardised equipment, affording motorists unmatched value for money.

Pricing across the 2024 Isuzu MU-X range remains competitive; with minor increases of $500 to $2,000; marking the first price increase to the range in two years.

With customer feedback in mind, IUA’s long-standing drive away offer on the flagship SUV remains, with the MU-X LS-T 4×4 priced at just $67,990 drive away.

“Value for money has always been at the core of our vehicles, and our team has worked hard behind the scenes to continue to offer that—regardless of the pressures from increased production and transportation costs that society has endured recently,” said Junta Matsui, Isuzu UTE Australia Managing Director.

“Increasing the price of the 24MY MU-X range was a decision not taken lightly, with all options deeply considered.”

“We’re confident that value for money has been maintained across the 24MY MU-X range and the addition of the 1.9-litre turbo-diesel engine gives customers a more affordable option; not just at the showroom, but down the track, as it is up to 10 per cent more fuel-efficient than our 3.0-litre engine.”

Engineered for a wide range of uses, including commuting and travelling vast distances. The unique Australian specification RZ4E-TC 1.9-litre delivers linear and progressive torque across the entire rev-range.

Since its local debut in 2022, this small-but-mighty engine has earnt a reputation with motorists, business fleets, and the media. Its quiet, torquey and fuel-efficient engine; a welcomed arrival just as diesel fuel prices soared to record heights.

With 110kW of power at 3,600rpm, the RZ4E-TC generates its 350Nm maximum torque output over a quarter (26.6 per cent) of its available torque band, between 1,800-2,600rpm.

Impressively, 85.7 per cent of the maximum torque output (300Nm) is available across 71.6 per cent of the torque band—from only 1,550rpm through to 3,700rpm.

Delivering strong mid-range torque across a 2,150rpm range in the middle of the band. The result is a wide and linear delivery of torque and strong mid-range response, which aids in both drivability and performance, particularly when carrying or towing a load.

Maximum braked towing capacity of MU-X models fitted with the 1.9-litre engine is 3,000kg, with the Gross Combination Mass (GCM) coming in at 5,500kg.

Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) is dependent on drivetrain, with 4×2 and 4×4 models coming in at 2,700kg and 2,800kg, respectively. Giving motorists more versatility and capability, 1.9-litre models have increased payload capacities.

With the MU-X LS-M 1.9L 4×4 able to carry up to 735kg—which positions it towards the top of its class.

Instilling motorists with reassurance, all 24MY Isuzu MU-X models are backed by a national network of over 160 dealer sites. As well as IUA’s newly improved Service Plus customer care program. Encompassing a five-year Flat Price Servicing Program, a six-year/150,000km warranty, and up to seven-year roadside assistance.
