Peugeot releases the all new 308 GT

New PEUGEOT 308 will initially launch with three variants across two body styles, both powered by the award winning PureTech engine, with a fourth variant powered by a plug-in hybrid drivetrain due to arrive in the first half of 2023.

The new face of PEUGEOT has arrived in Australia.

When complete, the local line-up will consist of three hatchback variants and a wagon, giving buyers the choice of 308 GT Hatch, 308 GT Premium Hatch, 308 GT Premium Wagon and the 308 GT Sport Hatch Plug-in Hybrid.

The new PEUGEOT 308 range has been carefully considered for the Australian market and provides a strong offering for consumers looking for dynamic and stylish design, an enjoyable and convenient driving experience and enhanced technology across both the electrified and turbocharged internal combustion engine variants.

PEUGEOT 308 GT Hatch, 308 GT Premium Hatch and 308 GT Premium Wagon will all be powered by PEUGEOT’s acclaimed PureTech 130 engine, a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine delivering 96 kilowatts of power and 230 Newton metres of torque. It is paired with the impressive eight-speed Efficient Automatic Transmission (EAT8).

For its part, the PEUGEOT 308 GT Sport Hatch Plug-In Hybrid matches a 132 kilowatt, 1.6-litre, PureTech turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and 81 kilowatt electric motor, the pair combining to deliver 165 kilowatts of power and 360 Newton metres of torque.

PEUGEOT 308 GT Sport Hatch Plug-In Hybrid uses a derivative of the EAT8, the electric-Efficient Automatic Transmission (e-EAT8) which replaces the torque convertor with a clutch pack.

Notably, the PEUGEOT 308 is the first model to bear the brand’s new coat of arms, which is centrally mounted on the bold, graphic grille, highlighting the grille pattern that gradually converges towards it. The badge also neatly houses the radar sensors used by the car’s electronic driving aids.

New PEUGEOT 308 is instantly recognisable by its LED headlights which feature new Matrix LED technology, and the hook-shaped LED daytime running lights plunging dramatically into each side of the front bumper.

At the rear, the tail lights use full LED technology to highlight PEUGEOT’S iconic three-claw design which, for new 308, delivers a modern, brand-specific lighting signature displaying a ‘welcome’ sequence every time the car is unlocked.

This distinctive lighting signature is perfectly in keeping with the company’s current bold exterior styling and distinctive architecture that adds to the dynamism of PEUGEOT 308’s silhouette; delivering a trendsetting design with an enhanced posture and elevated road presence, making for greater efficiency and safety in everyday use.

This third-generation PEUGEOT 308 is also roomier thanks to increases to the wheelbase, overall length, height, and width, ensuring even more space for rear seat passengers and luggage.

That changed architecture of the new PEUGEOT 308 highlights the diversity and richness of materials used in the passenger compartment, enhancing the next-generation of the renowned PEUGEOT i-CockpitTM with its new compact, multi-function steering wheel, 10-inch 3D digital instrument panel display and 10-inch, high-definition colour touchscreen housing PEUGEOT’s new i-Connect® infotainment system.

A comprehensive range of safety features and driver assistance technologies are standard across the new PEUGEOT 308 range and include:

Welcoming the new PEUGEOT 308 to the Australian market, PEUGEOT Australia Managing Director, Kate Gillis, said this newest addition to PEUGEOT’S iconic small car line is the best yet.

“The new PEUGEOT 308 follows-on from a multitude of iconic predecessors and presents the latest design and technology developments to put it at the forefront of the small car market segment.

“It signals a new era for the brand, a fresh design language, and we are confident that its dynamism and bold identity will appeal to Australian consumers with a keen appreciation for inspired design.

“This latest PEUGEOT 308 model range for Australia has been carefully selected to provide consumers with a strong line-up that will give buyers an enjoyable, encompassing driving experience.

“Technology for the traditional turbocharged internal combustion engines continues to be enhanced and the new plug-in hybrid technology represents another step in our commitment towards the electrification of the local PEUGEOT range.” Ms Gillis said.

Pricing for the local line up is as follows:

The New Face of Peugeot 308

Small car success through the decades

Over its many generations, PEUGEOT’S ‘300 Series’ has been a true success story which continues with this latest 308 edition.

Over the years the 308 has garnered awards and in its latest guise, blending contemporary design with efficient powertrains and innovative technology, has continued the award-winning precedent set by its predecessors. So far, the new PEUGEOT 308 has achieved global success winning the Women’s World Car of the Year 2022 as well as being awarded a prestigious Red Dot Design Award, the highest distinction in product design.

Modern and stylish, the new PEUGEOT 308 is the latest evolution in PEUGEOT’S ‘300 Series’ and follows-on from a multitude of legendary predecessors sold over the last 90 years. Starting in the early 1930s with the 301, the small car family presented as the most comprehensive model series in PEUGEOT’s history.

It stopped with the 302 in 1938 and was put on hold for three decades, until the arrival of the PEUGEOT 304 at the 1969 Paris Motor Show.

The PEUGEOT 305, successor to the 304, was launched in 1977 and was followed by the PEUGEOT 309 in 1985, a car seen as the brand’s first true ‘compact’ car.

The 309’s career ended in 1994, making way for the PEUGEOT 306, which was followed by the PEUGEOT 307 in 2001. That car was a huge success, with over 3.5 million units produced.

The first-generation PEUGEOT 308 arrived in 2007 and was followed by the second-generation in 2013.

Stylish, elegant, and innovative, it introduced the new PEUGEOT i-Cockpit™ with its compact steering wheel and high-mounted instrument panel setting new standards by reducing driver movements and increasing driving pleasure.

In all, seven million PEUGEOT 308s were sold globally over the first two generations before the new third-generation PEUGEOT 308 made its European debut. Now that car is today launching in Australia.

A Striking yet Purposeful Exterior Design

Purposeful Design

Featuring a distinctive style and trend-setting design that inherits the legacy of its forebear, the PEUGEOT 308 has an enhanced posture on the road courtesy of key dimensional changes.

As part of the move to the third generation of the new PEUGEOT 308, the car’s styling has evolved, changing shape to assert itself into the segment.

While the key styling elements that make 308 unmistakeably a PEUGEOT remain obvious, much has changed in the overall design.

The dark chrome chequered radiator grille has a three-dimensional appearance. Broad and dominant, it reaches out on either side to the new PEUGEOT Matrix LED headlights, while a narrow body-coloured bumper section separates the upper and lower grille sections.

New PEUGEOT 308 also proudly carries the company’s new coat of arms, which sits in the centre of the grille to announce the car’s arrival, at the same time highlight the grille pattern.

At the outer edges of the front profile, long, narrow LED Daytime Running Lights descend from the headlights to cut deeply into the bumper and front spoiler.

The low, flat bonnet line steps down at either side, dropping into broad shoulders underscored by aerodynamic ‘brows’ above the wheel arches. The bonnet’s trailing edge leads into a windscreen that not only has a steeper rake than the previous generation but has also moved backwards.

The front wing brow line disappears as it blends into the front door, re-emerging beneath the rear quarter-window and surging backward beneath the broad C-pillar to blend into the high-mounted main combination lamps holding the car’s signature ‘three claw’ tail lights.

For the PEUGEOT 308 GT Premium Wagon, the rear shoulder line is extended to meet the increased body length, starting at the C-pillar and extending back to the D-pillar.

Secondary tail light clusters for the reversing and fog lights are mounted low in the rear diffuser on either side of the twin chrome exhaust surrounds and extended lower body sills on each side of the car add to the overall aerodynamic effect.

Other trim highlights include body-coloured exterior door handles and rear spoilers, Nera black door mirror shells, gloss black B-pillars, rear light connecting garnish and rear diffuser. Bi-tone roof rails are standard on the GT Premium Wagon.

Each model variant carries ‘GT’ designation badging on its tailgate as well as model designation badges front and rear and PEUGEOT’s ‘Lion’ emblem on the front wings.

Generous wheel arches house 18-inch alloy wheels fitted with 225/40R18 tyres on all model grades.

The third-generation PEUGEOT 308 has changed dimensionally compared to the previous model.

The dimensions are as follows:

Length (mm) Width (mm) Height (mm) Wheelbase (mm)
308 Hatch Variants 4365 1850 1465 2675
308 GT Premium Wagon 4635 1850 1475 2730

Clever multi-energy platform for PEUGEOT 308

By using a multi-energy platform evolution of the EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform) in its construction, both the conventional internal combustion engine and rechargeable hybrid variants of the new PEUGEOT 308 can be built from the same base.

The platform is made using new structural elements, the design giving even more safety, driving pleasure and comfort than before.

With efficiency at the heart of the PEUGEOT 308’s development process, the new platform was built to help reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

More than ever, driving pleasure is in the very pores of this new PEUGEOT 308, with exemplary roadholding, top-of-the-range driving comfort, excellent driving pleasure and perfect manoeuvrability in town.

In the same vein, the PEUGEOT 308’s alloy wheel design provides better aerodynamics and contributes significantly to performance. They are:

Lighting

From the creation of the first PEUGEOT Type 1 in 1889 to the introduction of this newest PEUGEOT 308, the lighting of the Lion brand’s models has been in constant motion in terms of technology, functionality, and design.

Head and tail lamps epitomising the dual ideas of technology and design have become essential elements in reinforcing the identity of PEUGEOT models, making them immediately recognisable

Adaptive headlights for PEUGEOT 308

All Australian PEUGEOT 308 variants use LED lighting with automatically adjusting Matrix LED adaptive headlamps featuring three elements:

A camera mounted at the top of the windscreen constantly analyses the driving environment and automatically adapts the LED lighting and matrix intensity for optimal lighting.

When approaching a vehicle (either overtaking or following) at night, the camera tracks its progress. Main beam light segments are switched off around the detected vehicle, creating a shadow tunnel to avoid blinding the other car’s driver but keep the surroundings brightly illuminated.

PEUGEOT 308’s headlights operate in five modes or features specific to driving situation:

The PEUGEOT Matrix LED headlights are connected to the full LED rear lights, where the unique ‘three claw’ design ensures the new PEUGEOT 308 is unmistakable at first glance from front and rear.

PEUGEOT 308’s lighting also features:

Colour palette

The new PEUGEOT 308 also highlights a broad exterior colour range, with a total of eight colour choices spread across the model line-up.

The 308 GT Hatch, GT Premium Hatch and the 308 GT Sport Plug-In Hybrid Hatch are available in:

The 308 GT Premium Wagon is available in:

Comfortable, Spacious, Equipment-Rich Interiors

Intuitive technology meets premium design

PEUGEOT 308’s interior enhances the driving experience.

The horizontal dashboard design, with its modest instrument binnacle, emphasises the PEUGEOT 308 cabin’s width.

The dashboard utilises ‘high-vent’ architecture, placing the air vents immediately in front of the driver and front seat passenger, the optimum position for efficiency and comfort.

This layout ensures that the standard 10-inch central touch screen, located slightly lower than the digital instrument cluster, is closer to the driver’s hand and blends naturally into the overall volume of the dashboard.

Customisable virtual i-toggles are also a feature of this new PEUGEOT 308. Fully configurable for individual choice, each one is a touch-sensitive shortcut key for air-conditioning settings, telephone contacts, radio stations or app access.

Positioned below the central information screen, the i-toggles replace the physical air-conditioning front panel of the previous model to deliver a unique look and a new level of configurable technology.

The PEUGEOT i-Cockpit™

The latest-generation PEUGEOT i-Cockpit™ used in the new PEUGEOT 308 advances the principles of a small diameter, thick-rimmed sports steering wheel and a high-mounted instrument panel directly in the driver’s line of sight, avoiding the need to look away from the road.

It also continues the principle of orienting the central 10-inch, high-definition colour touchscreen to the driver, optimising driving ergonomics without ignoring the passenger.

The same applies to the centre console, which is open towards the passenger to creating a balance in the space between the front seat occupants.

The centre console design also reflects the space-saving nature of the new air-conditioning unit, placing all the car’s dynamic controls together in an arch offset towards the driver. It incorporates:

The centre console arch extends to a dedicated slot for wireless phone charging.

The rest of the console is dedicated to storage and convenience and features:

All new PEUGEOT 308 variants are fitted with a heated, multi-function, full-grain leather steering wheel with GT badging.

PEUGEOT 308’s interior is underscored with an eight-colour customisable LED ambient lighting display which illuminates the door panels.

Comfortable seats, spacious cabin

PEUGEOT 308’s interior design highlights the quality, diversity and richness of the materials used across the range, including mottled fabric, technical mesh, Alcantara, embossed leather and coloured Nappa leather^^.

The entry-level GT Hatch features Fraxx knit, tri-material Alcantara with ‘Isabella’ leather-effect trim and ‘Adamite’ green top stitching.

308 GT Premium Hatch and Wagon seats are trimmed in black full-grain Nappa leather^^ with ‘Tramontane’ charcoal grey top stitching.

Driver and front passenger seats in PEUGEOT 308 GT Hatch are mechanically adjustable and the driver’s seat has manual lumbar adjustment.

GT Premium Hatch and Wagon have electrically adjustable fore-aft, height and backrest angle on the driver’s seats along with a memory function and mechanical adjustment for the front passenger seat.

Both driver and passenger seats for GT Premium Hatch and Wagon feature standard electronic lumbar adjustment and multi-point massage function. They are also heated and have adjustable nose cushions at the leading edge of each seat.

The rear seats for 308 GT Hatch, 308 GT Premium Hatch are versatile one-third/two-thirds split/fold while the 308 GT Premium Wagon’s rear seat folds fully flat, maximising luggage capacity.

The increase in the new PEUGEOT 308’s wheelbase directly enhances overall interior comfort but is especially useful for rear seat passengers, who now enjoy even more knee room.

Other cabin features include two USB-C sockets fitted at the rear of the centre console, a pass-through in the centre of the 70/30 split-fold rear seat and a rear central armrest equipped with two cup holders and a telephone holder.

A quiet, harmonious space

PEUGEOT 308’s air conditioning benefits from an all-new system that enhances the thermal comfort of all occupants with back seat passengers now benefitting from air vents at the rear of the centre console.

With a view to improving cabin air quality, PEUGEOT 308 is equipped with an Air Quality System (AQS) which constantly monitors the quality of the air entering the vehicle and independently activates air recycling.

Full peace of mind is aided with Clean Cabin, an air treatment system which filters-out polluting gases and particles. Air quality can be displayed on the central touchscreen.

Cabin technology enhances the different glazing elements of the new PEUGEOT 308 and includes:

The central 10-inch, high-definition infotainment screen, which can display multiple windows with ‘widgets’ or shortcuts, is fully customisable, easy to use and features tablet-like responsiveness.

Menus can be scanned easily from left to right or top to bottom for notifications and a three-finger press makes the apps list appear. Returning to the main page is as simple as pressing the ‘Home’ button, just like a smartphone.

A permanent banner at the top of the screen displays the outside temperature, air conditioning status, widget page positions, connectivity data, notifications, and time.

Internet Connected Navigation by TomTom

For the first time, PEUGEOT buyers will be able to experience Connected Services, or an internet-connected vehicle to help with a range of navigation tasks. With its high-performance and efficient TomTom Internet-connected Navigation Subscription service, PEUGEOT i-Connect Advanced delivers a complete technological experience for Peugeot 308’s occupants.
