Genesis G70 Shooting Brake 2022 Review

G70 Shooting Brake – Genesis G70 Shooting brake is somewhat of an unusual vehicle in that over the last 10 years we have seen station wagons replaced by SUVs, yet Genesis has released their wagon version late in 2021.       Genesis G70 Shooting Brake 2022 Front qtrAvailable in two versions the Luxury and Sportline along with an optional Brembo brake package.

The styling is distinct, definitely wagon based yet sleek, elegant and curvaceous with an athletic energy.

Inside its all luxury and comfort. Heated and ventilated quilted Red Nappa leather front seats support the occupants in luxurious comfort.

The layout is subtle and functional. And if you feel the need there are multiple inbuilt sound options such as rainforest and gentle rain to calm for those stressful suburban commutes.

The G70 and GV70 series of vehicles are something special from Genesis and the G70 Shooting Brake sits well with that description. Now if only they would release one with AWD and the larger 3.3t engine

More Genesis G70 Shooting Brake Details

First launched in November 2021, the G7 Shooting Brake added another dimension to the excellent G7 line-up.

It mirrors the Sedan with two variants, the Luxury and Sport Line packages.

What does the G70 Shooting Brake look like?

In a word – Beautiful.

It appears to have an almost coupe like profile with the practicality of a wagon.

From the front you see a smooth bonnet with headlining Quad Lamp architecture & Genesis signature Crest Grille.

The rear features a unique and athletic treatment featuring a single-piece glass hatch and integrated rear spoiler, Quad lamps and dual tail pipes.

The new tailgate and boot design make G70 more practical than ever before. Cargo volume in G70 Shooting Brake expands to 465 litres, compared with 330 litres for sedan model.

A no-cost optional Sport Line Styling Package is offered, which brings a Sport Line interior, 19-inch sport alloy wheels, sport grille and dark chrome exterior highlights.

Other exterior features include Intelligent Front-Lighting System (IFS), Acoustic laminated windscreen and front door glass, Panorama Sunroof

Customers can create their unique G70 Shooting Brake with a choice of 15 exterior colours, including three in matte finish exclusive to Sport Line Styling variants.

What is the G70 Shooting Brake like inside?

All Genesis vehicles manage to combine luxury inclusions, outstanding fit and finish with premium ambience.

A 16 way driver’s seat that is heated and ventilated ensures superb driver comfort.

The general instrument and dash layout focuses on driver ergonomics.

G70 Shooting Brake features a Nappa leather appointed interior with richly tactile G Matrix style quilting and classy geometric patterned aluminium trim inserts.

The addition of the optional Sport Line Styling Package adds to this with Sport interior quilting, Sport-style swirl patterned aluminium trim inserts and Sports pedals.

Upholstery colour choices include the vibrant Sevilla Red, sophisticated Velvet Burgundy and classic Obsidian black among the selection of seven interior colours across Sport Line and standard styling.

Rear seat comfort is good but with very limited leg room. The rear seats don’t fold flat unfortunately as that would make the cavernous space even more functional.

Final thoughts

The Genesis G70 Shooting Brake is both a pleasant surprise and a disappointment.

The surprise is how comfortable and practical it is. As you would expect from Genesis, its great value for money, packed with little luxuries and generally a relaxing place to be.

The disappointment comes from the fact that Genesis has a potent 3.3T engine and AWD system sitting there and hasn’t offered them in the Shooting Brake version.
