Fastest Aussie on Earth at AIMS 2012

The Aussie Invader 5R at AIMS 2012
Land speed legend, Rosco McGlashan, the “Fastest Aussie on Earth” will be appearing at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show in Sydney in October.

Rosco, the current Australian Land Speed Record Holder at 500 mph (804 km/h), is attempting to become the fastest man in the world when he tackles the World Land Speed record behind the wheel of the Aussie Invader 5R – the rocket-powered car that has been 10 years in development.

Joining Rosco on stand at the Motor Show will be three members from Team Aussie Invader along with a 16 metre, life-size replica of the Aussie Invader 5R, giving visitors to the Motor Show an up-close and personal look at a model of the vehicle Rosco will pilot in his record attempt.

“We are thrilled to have Rosco McGlashan as a special guest at this year’s Australian International Motor Show in Sydney,” said Event Director, Russ Tyrie.

“Rosco is a fantastic ambassador for the Australian automotive industry, with his lifelong passion for anything with wheels and absolute dedication to local engineering, manufacturing and design.

“Rosco’s story and project is both unique and inspiring and we know visitors will enjoy speaking with him and the Aussie Invader team to find out more about their next record attempt and seeing a replica of the soon-to-be most powerful car in the world, the Aussie Invader 5R.”

Powered by a liquid oxygen and bio-kerosene rocket engine producing around 200,000 horsepower, the Aussie Invader 5R is capable of accelerating from 0-1,000 miles per hour (1,609 km/h) in just 20 seconds, faster than a bullet.

In successfully reaching this speed, Rosco and the rocket-powered Aussie Invader 5R will break the sound barrier one-and-a-half times over and smash the existing World Land Speed Record of 763 mph (1,223 km/h) set by British rival, Andy Green in 1997.

The Aussie Invader 5R world record attempt is set for 2013/14, about the same time Andy Green and the British team will be ready with their new car Bloodhound SSC setting the scene for the “Ashes of Land Speed.”

“We’re rapt to be back at the motor show this year, and really looking forward to giving fans the opportunity to see what our latest car, Aussie Invader 5R, will look like when finished, Rosco said.

“We’ve been planning and developing Aussie Invader 5R for ten years, and now we’re at the business end of bringing it all together.

“Our aim is to be testing the car next year, and working our way up to an attempt at the world record and 1000 mph after that. At 1000 mph we will be travelling the same speed the earth spins at the equator,”Rosco added.
