DEEPAL E07 Multitruck – everything you need to know

2025 DEEPAL E07 with bicycle on roof rails

I have just come back from the launch of perhaps the coolest EV to arrive in Australia so far. The DEEPAL E07 Multitruck.        2025 DEEPAL E07 with bicycle on roof rails

DEEPAL E07 First drive at launch

September 2025 update

The question about what it is sets the tone for its existence.

Is it a Spots car, a coupe, SUV, a liftback, Ute or wagon. The answer is all of these and none of these.

It is so far different from anything else it sets its own agenda.

Full details can be found HERE DEEPAL_E07_Spec_Sheet

Quick highlights

What is good?

  • Its simply the coolest EV available
  • Interior space and premium ambience
  • Smooth and quiet ride

What is not so good?

  • Its quirky nature may make it hard to define buyer segment
  • Intrusive safety features, constantly beeping, binging, and bonging
  • All controls are in the screen menu

And What does the DEEPAL E07 look like ?

As mentioned before its possibly the coolest design to arrive downunder yet.

From the front is displays a squared, bolder styling. It eschews the mundane, common Chinese SUV frontal look. This is highlighted by the full width lighting, subtle bonnet lines and integrated LED headlights. The strip lighting brings the profile into account by wrapping around the front quarter panels. An intelligent active lower grille reduces wind resistance while supporting battery temperature management and efficiency.

From the profile look is its best look. Its sleek, almost coupe like. With a long wheelbase and almost a wheel at each corner. Flush door handles and sharp creases in the lower door panels add to the sleek appeal.

One noticeable feature are the 21 inch diamond cut; triple spoke alloys with low profile Michelin EV performance tyres.

It’s from the rear that you really start to appreciate the difference. The glass dome roof for the “boot” area stands out. While a star ring shaped illuminated rear taillight signature rounds out the vehicle’s styling.

From the rear

The rear design draws inspiration from fastback and panoramic glass elements.

This is also the feature that with the touch of a button, will slide up (under the roof rails) , the glass portion retracts, the rear seats fold flat and the tailgate drops down.

There is enough room there for a double size bed and the practicality is akin to a liftback. Additional controls inside the load bay and cabin allow the rear glass, seats, and partition to be adjusted, creating an extended load area that reaches the front seatbacks.

At 5,045mm long, 1,996mm wide, and 1,680mm high, with a wheelbase of 3120mm, it offers the road presence of a large SUV while maintaining agility in urban environments. Ground clearance is a generous 223 mm (Air suspension at highest setting), enabling confident off-road performance and water wading of up to 600 mm.

Colour range includes the new hero colour, Spessartite Orange5, which is exclusive to AWD Performance models. Outside, both E07variants can be specified in Quartz White and Obsidian Black as standard, while RWD variants will be offered in an exclusive Hematite Grey at no additional cost. AWD Performance models will add the exclusive Jade Green as standard, while model exclusive Spessartite Orange and Matte Hematite Grey will be available as an $1,800 option5.

What is the DEEPAL E-7 like inside?

The immediate impression is of a large premium SUV. It also takes minimalism to a whole new level.

The general fit and finish is excellent, with premium materials.

At the heart of the cabin are the Zero Gravity Seats, upholstered in supple Nappa leather11. They provide 14-way electric adjustment, heating, ventilation, massage functions, and memory settings.

To say they the front seats are supportive and comfortable would be understating it.

Zero Gravity Front Seats include:

Additional comfort features:

In terms of minimalism, essentially there is a steering wheel and a central screen.

Everything is controlled by the central screen menu and toggle roller controls on the steering wheel spokes.

This is where design vs functionality gets confused. Form over Function.

Obviously on a day’s drive it was difficult to work everything out, but with more time familiarity will come. However, it could be so much simpler.

Even moving the steering wheel up and down or in and out requires finding the menu item on the screen.

The steering wheel offers four-way electric adjustment (reach -30 mm to +20 mm, plus tilt), controlled through the infotainment system. Heating integrates with climate controls, while capacitive sensors enable hands-off detection for intelligent driver assistance. Two multifunction rollers replace clusters of buttons, simplifying operation and giving the cockpit a clean, modern feel. Customisable keys further enhance personalisation.

This design quirks extend to the window buttons being counter intuitive and the clever self closing doors.

Central Touch Screen

The 15.4-inch ultra-clear rotating infotainment screen can tilt up to 15-degrees towards driver or passenger. It supports Apple CarPlay®6, Android Auto™6, and DEEPAL’s own operating system (OS). Complemented by a head-up display and intuitive voice control. Ambient lighting with 256 colour options allows the cabin to flow seamlessly from day into night.

Sound is delivered via a 20-speaker audio system,18 internal speakers, two external units (for exterior voice control), – creating an immersive or personalised listening experience.

Storage

Between the front seats is a spacious arm rest/storage area. This is a floating design with an abundance of storage areas.

It incorporates deep storage, integrated ventilation, dual USB-C/ USB-A ports with data transfer capability, and a 50W wireless fast-charging ventilated pad13 finished in soft suede. Additional under-armrest storage accommodates larger items, enhancing everyday usability.

Practicality is as important as luxury. The E07’s cabin is thoughtfully equipped with boot cargo hooks, centre armrest storage, front and rear cupholders, door pockets with integrated bottle holders, and seatback pockets. This mindfulness ensures everyday convenience for families, commuters, and adventurers alike.

Rear seats

Rear passengers also enjoy electrically adjustable lounge-like seating with heating, ventilation, massage, and electric backrest adjustment. There is good rear legroom as well as headroom. Seats are a touch flat but comfortable.

Floating centre and door armrests in the rear further enhance comfort and storage, while double-layer acoustic glass and extensive insulation deliver whisper-quiet refinement.

Boot space

Modularity is central: the 60/40 split rear seats allow longer items to pass through to the cabin while still in SUV mode, or they can fold completely flat. Combined with a 131L front trunk (frunk) and 524L rear storage (1,654L with second row seats folded), the E07 balances comfort with practicality.

For camping, extended trips or extended loads, the cabin can transform into a flat sleeping space. With headrests removed, the front seats fold seamlessly to meet the rear cushions, creating a platform large enough for a queen-size mattress (1,800mm driver side / 2,000mm passenger side length, 1,367mm width). The rear section can also fold flat with the electric partition, extending the load area to 1,865 mm long by 1,100 mm wide, with a 15-degree recline.

Four additional switches on the left side of the boot offer precise control, while the central infotainment screen and voice commands give complete flexibility from inside or outside the cabin.

The electrically retractable rear seats, with easy-access buttons within the UTE space, make transforming the rear effortless. Added touches, like a 3.5kW/220V three pin outlet, durable plastic surfaces for easy cleaning, and concealed storage, make the E07 as practical as it is adaptable.

Model Line Up: Specifications

The Australian lineup for the DEEPAL E07 has been curated to balance innovation with flexibility.

The single motor, E07 RWD is designed for drivers who value extended range, comfort, and everyday practicality. With its single-motor setup and lighter overall weight, it delivers exceptional efficiency, making it ideal for those whose daily lives involve a mix of urban and regional travel.

The dual-motor, E07 AWD Performance is aimed at those who demand maximum performance and versatility. Its dual-motor system provides nearly double the power, placing it among the fastest accelerating EVs in its ‘class,’ while maintaining competitive range and towing ability.

Drivetrains aside, standard features across both variants include:

Electric motor and Drivetrain.

Customers can choose between two advanced powertrains:

The RWD variant is equipped with a single electric motor producing 252 kW and 365 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds1 to a top speed of 201 km/h.

Drive Mode Select options

Both variants offer four Drive Mode Select options – Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Custom.

This adjusts transmission, steering, and suspension settings to suit driving preferences.

In addition, all vehicles feature:

Regardless of drive type, both variants deploy permanent magnet synchronous motors, with power delivered via a parallel-shaft, two-stage reduction transmission.

Range and charging

Both variants are engineered for long-range driving confidence, offering WLTP ranges of up to 550 km (RWD) (2) and 510 km (AWD) (2), supported by rapid DC charging capability that makes topping up fast and convenient.

Both models draw energy from the same liquid-cooled, high-capacity 89.98 kWh ternary lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery, prized across the industry for its balance of high energy density, safety, and longevity.

Charging flexibility further enhances usability. Using a 7 kW AC charger, the E07 can be fully charged from empty in 13–16 hours4, ideal for overnight home use.

For longer journeys, the 240 kW DC fast-charging system replenishes 30–80% of the battery in just 15 minUtes4, providing up to 350 km of range. Charging is supported via AC (Type 2) and DC (CCS2) connectors.

The E07 also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality up to 6.6 kW, enabling owners to power appliances, tools, or campsite equipment, as well as Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V)  14 charging capability.

What is the DEEPAL E07 like to drive?

Quiet is the immediate thought. Obviously, there is minimal electric motor sound. Minimal tyre and road noise and a touch of wind noise from the external mirrors.

These are two different cars courtesy of the different drivetrains.

The RWD version is spritely, with instant torque. It will hum along comfortably soaking up the road imperfections. Steering response is good. You would be forgiven for thinking you were in an extremely quiet premium SUV.

The AWD version again will amble along without any hint of what lies below the right boot.

Plant it and the vehicle transforms into a different beast.

It can get a bit untidy doing this if you are in comfort drive mode. Especially around tight corners it tends to float a touch.

However, switch to sport mode and everything tightens up. The steering response is more direct, the air suspension hunkers down, and the right boot has almost seemingly endless acceleration available to it.

In sport mode the DEEPAL E07 AWD rivals some of the best EV sports cars available.

Response is startling. Push you into the seat quick. You truly lose track of how fast you are going. But a quick look down at the digital speedo and you quickly reign it in or lose your license.

The marketing blurb says this vehicle is capable of off road driving. The E07’s elevated ride height, 223 mm ground clearance, and ability to wade through 600 mm of water also contribute to this claim.

But no one in their right mind will take the E07 further off road than the gravel driveway to the country estate.

Platform And Chassis

Beneath its stylish exterior, the E07 is powered by DEEPAL’s Super Digital Architecture (SDA) – the Changan Group’s most advanced vehicle platform to date. SDA integrates mechanical, electrical, and digital systems into a single cohesive framework, creating a vehicle that is not only powerful and efficient but also intelligent and adaptable.

The architecture is built on six interconnected pillars:

Together, these layers enable a vehicle that can learn, adapt, and evolve over time. Through over-the-air (OTA) updates, the E07 can receive new features, refinements, and system improvements long after leaving the showroom – ensuring it remains at the forefront of technology and market requirements.

SDA also allows deep integration of driver-assist systems, underpinning the E07’s suite of advanced safety technologies. More importantly, it establishes the foundation for future enhancements as intelligent vehicle systems evolve.

From an engineering perspective, the platform reflects DEEPAL’s vision of vehicles not as static products, but as evolving companions. In the E07, the Super Digital Architecture ensures that the Multitruck is not only a high-performing EV today, but a vehicle designed to improve, adapt, and remain relevant well into the future.

E07 features an advanced adaptive chassis system,

At the mechanical level, the E07 features an advanced adaptive chassis system, combining double wishbone front suspension with independent multi-link rear suspension. The suspension system offers four levels of height settings including: low, medium, high and self-adaption offering real time adjustment.

Dubbed “Magic Carpet” suspension, it integrates Continuous Damping Control (CDC) with self-levelling air suspension to automatically adjust to changing road conditions, delivering both comfort and responsiveness. The platform provides exceptional rigidity and crash protection while keeping weight optimised for efficiency and extended range.

To complement ride comfort, the Australian-spec E07 debuts 21-inch full-faced alloy wheels paired with Michelin EV tyres, engineered to reduce road noise and optimise NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) performance.

Steering is managed via an Electric Power Assisted Rack & Pinion system, offering a 12.3 m turning circle for precise handling and manoeuvrability.

Super Digital Architecture (SDA)

A Layered Approach to Intelligent Mobility.

Changan DEEPAL’s SDA (Software-Defined Architecture) platform integrates mechanical, electrical, and software systems into a single adaptable structure. It is organised into six distinct layers, each serving a critical role in the vehicle’s operation, safety, and intelligence.

Layer L1 – Mechanical Layer (limbs)

The Tianheng (translates as the perfect balance between comfort and performance, weight and strength, adaptability and control) intelligent chassis and ultra-strong body form the platform’s foundation. This provides structural safety and strength while enabling adaptive adjustments to chassis height, damping, and other parameters depending on road conditions. It supports multiple driving modes and can be continuously upgraded.

Layer L2 – Energy Layer (heart)

An all-in-one eight-hundred-volt power system supplies efficient, stable energy to the vehicle. Designed for endurance and reliability, it ensures consistent performance across a wide range of driving conditions.

Layer L3 – Electrical & Electronic Architecture Layer (brain)

The central computing platform and ring-network architecture manage electrical and electronic systems. This structure enables integrated domain control, smooth operation, and Over The Air (OTA) updates, while maintaining security and reliability.

Layer L4 – Operating System (OS) Layer (mind)

Changan DEEPAL OS provides the software foundation, separating hardware from software for greater flexibility. It supports intelligent driving features and allows safe, reliable updates over time.

Layer L5 – Vehicle Function Application Layer (skills)

This layer enables programmable vehicle functions and interactive services. It integrates intelligent driving capabilities and supports adaptive scenarios, allowing the E07 to respond dynamically to driver behaviour and preferences.

Layer L6 – Cloud Big Data Layer (knowledge)

The cloud-based layer creates a closed-loop data ecosystem for collection, processing, training, and simulation. It supports continuous improvement of vehicle intelligence – from personalised, individual learning to fleet-wide optimisation – through dynamic data strategies and advanced cloud tools.

Safety

Currently there is no ANCAP safety rating. That’s ok though, because it’s packed with features.

It’s also inflicted with the Chinese L2 Autonomous intrusiveness.

It needs some software modifications just like the S07, to improve the user interface. Like many Chinese vehicles it constantly bings and bongs at you, often you have no idea why.

Active Safety

Safety sits at the core of E07, combining global expertise with features tailored to local conditions. Headlined by six intelligent drive-assistance features, six parking-assistance features, and eighteen active safety protection features, the E07 is packed with intelligent safety technology.

Local expertise has been integral to development. Following the earlier launch of the S07, DEEPAL engineers conducted extensive calibration in Australia, fine tuning systems to ensure a more intuitive, natural, and road-ready driving experience. As a result, all active safety, driver-assist, and parking functions on the E07 launch with DEEPAL’s latest software calibrated specifically for Australian conditions and aligned with local driver expectations

Thanks to the Super Digital Architecture (SDA), these functions can continue to evolve via over-the-air (OTA) updates, keeping the E07 at the forefront of market demands and safety requirements. The outcome is a comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite tailored to local needs, including but not limited to:

Among its smart technologies is Reverse Tracing Assist (RTA), which memorises the last fifty metres of driving and can automatically retrace that path – ideal for navigating tight driveways or tricky off-road tracks.

Supporting these systems is a robust hardware suite: twelve ultrasonic radars, five millimetre-wave radars, and five cameras provide full 360-degree awareness, forming a safety net that boosts driver confidence across all conditions.

DEEPAL Australia strives to provide a driving experience that is safe , intelligent, and suited to local conditions. The company seeks to refine its vehicles and software in response to driver feedback, ensuring ongoing enhancements in both performance and usability wherever possible.

Passive Safety

Every detail of the DEEPAL E07’s safety architecture reflects the shared commitment of Changan and DEEPAL to protect what matters most – especially when innovation meets real-world challenges.

Central to this is the vehicle’s reinforced unibody structure, engineered with extensive use of high-strength steel and carefully designed crumple zones that absorb impact forces while preserving cabin integrity.

Occupants are further protected by a comprehensive eight-airbag system, which includes dual front, side, curtain, and rear passenger airbags. Together, they provide 360-degree coverage, forming a protective cocoon that cushions occupants from all angles while working in harmony with the vehicle structure to optimize impact mitigation.

Unique to the E07 is its electronic door system which offers smooth, modern access under normal use. In emergencies or power failure scenarios, it reliably transitions to a manual override, ensuring that occupants can always exit safely, no matter the situation.

As part of the larger Changan Group, DEEPAL also benefits from the company’s corporate sustainability goals, including a commitment to carbon neutrality across production facilities by 2050. In this way, every E07 represents more than an electric vehicle – it is part of a global effort to create cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable mobility solutions.

The History Of DEEPAL

DEEPAL is not just another start-up. It is the product of over 160 years of manufacturing resilience and four decades of automotive mastery under Changan Automobile – one of the most enduring and powerful names in global mobility.

Founded in 1862, Changan has evolved from its industrial roots into a global automotive force. With more than 40 years of vehicle production and millions of loyal customers, it has become a benchmark for engineering capability, trust, and scale. In 2021, Changan shattered records to become the first Chinese automaker to sell over twenty million vehicles — a figure that now exceeds twenty-seven million.

Behind that success lies a world-class Research and Development network spanning six countries and a track record of 14 consecutive years as China’s number one in innovation capability.

This is the powerhouse that stands behind DEEPAL. Where other EV brands fight to prove their credibility, DEEPAL enters the stage already carrying the strength, trust, and stability of a global leader – while moving with the speed, boldness, and vision of a challenger. It is this duality that makes DEEPAL different: the fearlessness of the new, with the muscle of the established.

Changan’s commitment to electrification began in 2001 with its first hybrid, before accelerating through the ambitious Shangri-La and Dubhe Plans of 2017- strategies that set the stage for intelligent, electrified mobility on a massive scale. From this vision, DEEPAL was born in 2022: a brand dedicated exclusively to New Energy Vehicles.

The name DEEPAL, meaning “deep blue,” reflects its mission – to cast forward-thinking illumination on the future of mobility. Its vehicles fuse advanced electric technology, intelligent software, and real-world versatility, created for those who seek more than transport: for those who demand innovation, flexibility, and a vehicle that evolves with them.

DEEPAL’s focus is bold and uncompromising:

In Australia, DEEPAL’s arrival is more than just a launch – it’s the dawn of a new category. As the brand celebrates 500,000 vehicles on the road globally, it is already gaining traction across Southeast Asia and the Middle East, with Europe set to follow in 2025.

Globally, the DEEPAL family includes the SL03, S07, G318, L07, S05, S09 and Hunter K50. In Australia, the groundbreaking E07 Multitruck joins the S07 SUV — soon to be followed by the S05 small SUV – delivering not just new models, but a new vision of what mobility can be.
