Audi Australia launches Facebook with live coverage from Bathurst 12 Hour

Audi R8 LMS race cars Bathurst 12 hour
Motoring enthusiasts will get an unique insight into the Audi customer racing teams tipped to take out line honours at the Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour (February 24-26, 2012), with the launch of Audi Australia on Facebook.

Phoenix Racing, supported by Audi Sport customer racing, will provide rich content for one of the most hotly anticipated ‘events’ of the racing calendar, as the German luxury carmaker’s Australian operations launch a bespoke Facebook page – the first of a raft of social media activations to come from Audi Australia.

Seasoned touring car driver Warren Luff will feed updates from Pit Lane. Luff is partnered with motor racing legend Craig Lowndes, and gentleman driver, Mark Eddy in the Australian team car, which carries the livery of the country’s small but deadly redback spider. Insights from the international team in a second R8 LMS, emblazoned with a ‘Warning – Kangaroos next 6km’ design, will excite fans with Germans Christopher Mies, Christer Jöns and Darryl O’Young of Hong Kong at the wheel.

A dedicated Audi Facebook team will have every aspect of the event covered off, as both teams look to defend their titles for 2012. Followers can be kept up-to-date with the very latest from the track with dedicated liveblog, video, imagery and developing news.

Anna Burgdorf, Audi’s General Manager of Corporate Communications says the company is excited to be launching Facebook with such rich content.

“Defending our 2011 victory at the Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour event gives us some great behind-the-scenes opportunities for new fans on Facebook. It will be a challenging race for the Audi teams, but the edge of the seat excitement will be a great platform to make people feel a part of the community alongside the racing teams as they compete to take out first and second for the second year.”

“Facebook is the first of Audi’s primary social media platforms which people can expect to see roll out over the course of this year. For us, it’s about connectivity in all that we do and encouraging customers and car-lovers to be a part of that. We are looking forward to developing a community of Audi fans.”

Beyond the upcoming racing event, the Audi Australia Facebook platform will be a content-rich community hub for localised content and news from the German luxury carmaker.
