Lexus RC350 and RCF Review

2014 Lexus RC 350 F Sport
The Lexus coupe range has developed a reputation for being sporty but sensible and practical for everyday living, and the RCF and RC350 do not disappoint. The beauty with Lexus is you get all the bells and whistles and luxury trimmings without the hefty price tag. Recently, we’ve had the opportunity to test both cars out and see just how they stack up.

The RC350 has finally allowed Lexus to rival the likes of Audi A5, BMW 4 series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. With three different variants, we test drove the mid-range F Sport. Powered by a 3.5L V6 engine and teamed with an 8 speed automatic transmission, the RC350 produces 233kW of power @ 6,400rpm and 378Nm of torque @ 4,800rpm. On the road the car sits comfortably, delivers smooth acceleration and minimal road noise. While our test vehicle exceeded the stated 9.4L/100km, you don’t mind so much when the ride is as enjoyable as this.

First impressions always count and the Lexus RC350 F Sport channels a sleek, sexy and dominant exterior that is reminiscent of video-game muscle cars. It is a polarising effect, especially the bottom-heavy grille, but it is one that I tend to like overall.

Inside you are greeted with the familiar Lexus luxury featuring leather trimmed seats, alloy accents throughout, sports steering wheel and front bucket seats with lumbar support and heating. The RC350 also boasts front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera and a 7-inch infotainment system that is navigated by a touch-pad. The touch-pad in question is incredibly annoying to use and I wish Lexus had stuck with the previous touch system. Comfortably fitting 4 people, all occupants are protected by 8 front, side and rear airbags and all the safety features you expect in a Lexus.

While the styling DNA remains the same, the RCF offers drivers that extra power under the bonnet that they’re craving. Featuring a 5.0L V8 engine which produces 351kW of power @ 7,100rpm and 530Nm of torque @ 4,800rpm, those who get behind the wheel will absolutely be rewarded. Switch it into Sports + and you will see exactly what the RCF has to offer sitting tight and low around the corners and plenty of oomph when you plant your foot.

Continuing the sporting exterior of the RC350 F Sport, the RCF embodies the head-turning, bold statement that you think of when ‘sport coupe’ is mentioned. A moon roof brings in plenty of natural light to the interior that is fitted with masculine accents throughout including sports bucket seats, snug roofline and silver trims. The layout is incredibly functional, everything is where you expect it to be and it is incredibly easy to navigate for the driver or passenger. One down side is that Lexus has also decided to use the touch-pad navigation as mentioned before – something that you will either love or hate.

2014 Lexus RC 350 F Sport

Coming in at $81,438 drive away the RC350 F Sport is for the discerning buyer looking for sport styling with everyday practicality. For those who want the sporty styling to flow into a seriously sporty engine, the RCF is the option for you coming in at $145,175 RDAP. No matter what your budget is for your luxury car, Lexus accommodates providing excellent value, practicality, effortless styling and trustworthy Lexus reputation.
