Hyundai Motor Company Australia Posts Best-Ever October Sales

Hyundai has posted a sales result of 6,359 units, its best ever October result since the brand started selling cars in Australia in 1986, achieving a monthly market share of 7.9%.

The Hyundai October year-to-date 2010 sales total of 67,941 represents a 26% increase compared with the same period last year, surpassing the brand’s best-ever annual sales record.

Nationally, Hyundai ranked fourth for the month (fifth October YTD) in total sales and third for the month (fourth October YTD) in passenger car sales with a market share of 10.8%.

“This is yet another outstanding result for the team at Hyundai and the Hyundai Dealer network. We are excited to have surpassed our best-ever annual sales record in the first ten months of this year,” said Damien Meredith, Hyundai’s Director of Sales. “Our new models i20 and i45 have performed well alongside our all-star performers Getz and i30. This is a great result as we head towards the end of the year.”

Overseas, Hyundai Motor Company’s global sales increased +10.4% (October 2010 v. October 2009) to 320,291units. Hyundai Motor America (HMA) posted an all-time record October result with total sales of 42,656, up 38% percent versus the same period in 2009. HMA has already exceeded total and retail volumes for the entire 2009 calendar year.

Hyundai’s Australian highlights include:

Getz ranked first in the light car segment achieving 1,575 vehicle sales and a 14.6% market share.
The i30 range ranked third in the small car segment achieving 2,165 vehicle sales and a 12.3% market share.
iMax ranked second in the people mover segment after posting a sales result of 169 units and a 15.5% market share.
iLoad ranked second in the van segment after posting a sales result of 421 units.
i20 and i45 both achieved their highest monthly sales volumes since launch of 522 and 363 units respectively.
Hyundai’s global October 2010 results include:

Hyundai’s South Korean domestic sales decreased -5.8% to 62,615 units in October from 66,485 units a year earlier.
Total overseas sales, including both exports from South Korea and sales from overseas plants, rose by +15.2% to 257,676 units October, up from 223,694 units a year earlier.
Exports were up +13.6% in October as compared to a year earlier.
Sales from overseas plants rose +16.1% to 161,270 units.

Hyundai’s South Korean domestic sales fell -3.3% to 539,125 units October YTD from 557,607 units a year earlier.
Total overseas sales, including both exports from South Korea and sales from overseas plants, rose by +26.1% to 2,448,231units October YTD, up from 1,942,037 units a year earlier.
Exports were up +22.6% October YTD as compared to a year earlier.
Sales from overseas plants rose +28.2% percent to 1,554,352 units.
