Suzuki Australia has launched the ultimate expression of its award-winning Swift light car: the all-new Swift Sport.

Almost every element of the car has been redesigned, with an evolutionary and aggressive new look, an upgraded handling package, dramatic powertrain revisions and five-star safety.

Suzuki Australia General Manager Tony Devers said Suzuki had engineered even higher levels of performance and styling, combined with outstanding environmental performance to produce a hot hatch for 2012 and beyond.

“The all new Swift Sport represents the essence of the Suzuki philosophy that driving a compact car does not mean having to settle for less.

>

“It characterizes the ongoing evolution of our most popular model by the masters of light car engineering to create the sporty flagship of the Swift range.

“The engineering team was driven by the goal of creating the ultimate Swift, but one that was within reach of all hot hatch fans.”

While one look confirms the Swift DNA is clearly carried over, the new Sport offers even more: more power, more performance, more handling, more economy and more safety.

The upgraded 1.6-litre engine delivers 100 kW, making this the most powerful Swift ever made, while a 30 kilogram weight reduction delivers a significant reduction in fuel economy.

Swift Sport now comes standard with an all-new six-speed manual transmission, and for the first time will be offered with an optional seven-speed Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) to further increase appeal and sales potential.

Offering large car convenience with small car running costs, Holden’s all-new dedicated LPG Commodore combines sophisticated technology, five-star safety, outstanding driveability and incredibly low fuel running costs with the space, comfort and practicality of Australia’s iconic Commodore range.

An intensive engineering project, the dedicated LPG Commodore program has clocked up more than 1.3 million development kilometres to deliver a vehicle perfectly suited to Australian conditions and driving tastes.

The program goals for the LPG Commodore were simple:

Achieve class-leading CO2 emissions
Achieve fuel running costs comparable to, or better than, many small petrol cars
Achieve a seamless drive experience in-line with petrol Commodore models.
LPG Commodore has met – or exceeded – each of these goals. The thorough and extensive engineering program has resulted in numerous local engineering solutions and several patents being awarded, ensuring the LPG Commodore is tailor-made for Australia.

The heart of the dedicated LPG Commodore is its 3.6-litre, double overhead cam V6 engine with four valves per cylinder. This advanced engine has been specifically developed to run on LPG, therefore allowing extensive design optimisation in several key areas.

LPG Commodore Omega sedan emits just 189g/CO2 per kilometre – the lowest figure of any locally-built six-cylinder sedan and cements the LPG Commodore’s position as a fantastic option for private customers and fleets alike.

The sophisticated dedicated LPG system ensures the entire LPG Commodore range is awarded an outstanding 4.5 out 5 score in the Green Vehicle Guide.

LPG Commodore’s environmental credentials are further bolstered by exceeding stringent Beyond Euro 6 exhaust emissions standards across the range.

Yet the low fuel running costs and reduced environmental impact of the LPG Commodore doesn’t come at the cost of practicality. Omega LPG sedan’s impressive range of more than 700km ensures that ‘range anxiety’ is not an issue and is another example of the LPG Commodore giving customers the freedom to live large on a small car budget.

Holden is expanding the appeal of the LPG stable by offering the full range of bodystyles for the first time: sedan, Sportwagon, ute and long wheelbase variants are available. This move ensures there is an LPG Commodore to suit every customer.

With customers needs at the heart of the LPG Commodore program, Holden engineers moved the LPG fuel tank from the boot and relocated it rearward of the rear axle – giving customers maximised boot space and addressing a traditional shortcoming of most LPG vehicles.

The LPG Commodore range mirrors the recently upgraded MY12 petrol Commodore family for features and specifications, offering the same compelling value story which has kept VE Commodore a favourite with customers since launch.

In another first, Holden will launch an LPG Commodore Equipe sedan and Sportwagon. Offering outstanding value, the Equipe adds a number of desirable features on top of the Omega specification, including:

18-inch alloy wheels
Rear view camera
Rear park assist
Leather appointed seat trim
Leather wrap steering wheel
Front fog lamps with chrome accents
Holden Chairman and Managing Director, Mike Devereux, said: “The dedicated LPG Commodore range is yet another example of Holden’s continued focus on making cars that suit modern Australia and is the next step in the evolution of the VE Commodore. We are offering sophisticated motoring solutions to our customers.

“The LPG Commodore range is a no-compromise prospect. With outstanding fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, cheaper fuel running costs than many small petrol cars and excellent driving characteristics, our customers will be able to enjoy the practicality and comfort of a large car without the large car fuel bills.

“We are committed to taking a leadership position with alternative fuels to make sure Commodore remains the smart vehicle choice for Australian motorists,” said Mr Devereux.

LPG and infrastructure

LPG, or Liquefied Petroleum Gas, has been a part of the Holden portfolio since the first Holden-approved LPG system was introduced on VP Commodore nearly 20 years ago. Technology has moved forward in leaps and bounds since then, culminating in the advanced dedicated LPG system now offered in VE Commodore.

LPG is a fantastic low-cost alternative fuel – typically at least 30 percent cheaper than petrol* – and is sourced and refined locally, meaning its use pays back into the Australian industry and economy.

LPG powered vehicles emit significantly fewer greenhouse gases and pollutants compared to petrol-powered equivalents. LPG produces 10 to 15 percent less CO2 and substantially fewer hydrocarbon emissions than petrol.

The LPG option price is $2500, including GST, but private buyers of new factory-fitted LPG vehicles can apply for a $2000 Federal Government rebate. Factoring in the low fuel running costs of the LPG system and any additional cost will be quickly recouped.

And with more than 3300 metropolitan and rural LPG outlets Australia-wide, the LPG infrastructure is extensive and well established.

The Audi R8 LMS will compete at the 12-hour race at Bathurst on February 26 as the title defender. Audi customer sport celebrated a one-two result on the legendary Australian race track at the beginning of the 2011 season. This year, Team Phoenix Racing as well is set on battling for overall victory with two R8 LMS cars – and the two race cars fielded by the DTM-winning team from the Eifel are causing a stir even before the event.

A kangaroo and a spider: The two Audi R8 LMS from Phoenix Racing unmistakably stand for Australia’s wildlife. The black GT3 race car designated as number “1” displays the typical yellow road sign with the marsupial on its flanks. And the graphics of the white number “2” show a Redback spider and its web. This brings back fond memories to Audi fans.

On December 31, 2000, Dindo Capello and Allan McNish won the “Millennium Race” at Adelaide, Australia, in an Audi R8 sporting the now legendary crocodile design.

The entertaining exterior though is not designed to – and should not – mislead anyone about the high ambitions pursued by the run as two prominent driver teams supported by Audi Sport customer racing – Audi’s customer sport department – and Audi Australia are to drive for overall victory yet again. Like last year, the home round to the Australian trio is about fighting for a great honor. Mark Eddy, the current Australian GT Champion in the Audi R8 LMS, is sharing the cockpit of car number “2” with Australia’s touring car legend, the three-time V8 Supercar Champion Craig Lowndes, and Warren Luff. Lowndes set the fastest race lap last year in the Audi R8 LMS, Luff achieved the fastest time in qualifying.

Two of the three winners from last year – the German Christopher Mies and Darryl O’Young from Hong Kong – are at the wheel of car number “1.” Their new teammate Christer Jöns (Germany) is making his debut in Australia.

For Phoenix Racing, the fifth continent is new territory as well whereas the field of “endurance racing” is not. The German team proved its marathon qualities by achieving two overall victories at the Nürburgring 24 Hours and one at the Spa 24 Hours as well as numerous other podium places and class victories. In addition, Ernst Moser’s squad that has been part of the program from day one and a longstanding partner of quattro GmbH knows the R8 LMS inside and out.

Romolo Liebchen, Head of Audi Sport customer racing: “The Australian market is very important for Audi. In view of this, we are very happy to be able to compete and make our mark at this prestigious race.”

Phoenix Racing is meeting strong rivals in the GT3 class at Bathurst. A total of 33 cars will be on the grid, including an Audi R8 LMS from United Autosports. The Anglo-American customer sport team is competing for the first time with the native South African Mark Patterson, the Franco-Chinese Alain Li and Frank Yu from Hong Kong at the 12-hour race.

For the fans and the drivers, the 6.213-kilometer race track at Mount Panorama is a dream. The roller-coaster circuit features a 170-meter vertical difference, includes 23 turns, makes for high suspense with its unusual radii and barriers close to the track and is considered the home of Australian motorsport. It is also the venue of the annual Bathurst 1000 race which Craig Lowndes has decided in his favor as many as five times.

Fans around the world can watch the qualifying sessions and the race via live streaming provided by the organizer at www.audi.tv.

Topics of the weekend

Will the Audi R8 LMS manage to repeat its 2011 victory?
Will the Australian trio prevail this year?
How will the Audi R8 LMS fare against the GT3 competition?
Quotes by the officials
Ernst Moser (Team Director Phoenix Racing)
“Our team has never run in Australia before. In addition, February as the first month of racing is very early as we normally just test at this time of year. Obviously, such a special track as Bathurst suggests a comparison with the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Bathurst has high vertical differences. The circuit with its barriers close to the track is very difficult to drive. Since the Audi R8 LMS celebrated a one-two result last year it is only natural that there are certain expectations this year. Mercedes and Ferrari will be tough rivals for us. We’ve got to be sure not to make any mistakes. quattro GmbH with its experiences from last year helped us a great deal to prepare for the event. Five of the six drivers know the track and as a team we’re intimately familiar with the Audi R8 LMS and are also at home in endurance racing. We’re reinforced by four employees from Australia who are joining our team via Mark Eddy. I’m very excited. It remains to be seen which Michelin tire compounds we’ll be allowed to use.”

Facts and quotes by the Audi drivers
Mark Eddy (51/AUS), Audi R8 LMS #2 (Phoenix Racing)

Won the Australian GT Championship in the Audi R8 LMS last year
Started from pole position at Bathurst in 2011
Is sharing the cockpit in this year’s Australian GT Championship with
Warren Luff
“Last year we had a nice battle between the two Audi R8 LMS. It was an exciting race all the way to the end. The car was very reliable and fast. It felt good on a wet and dry track and was easy to drive! We three Australians would now like to finish one place farther in front after the close outcome last year. But this year the competition with the international teams and even more makes in the field is even tougher.”

Christer Jöns (24/D), Audi R8 LMS #1 (Phoenix Racing)

Has known the Audi R8 LMS since 2010
Is the only one of the six drivers to have never competed at Bathurst before
Is arriving a week earlier in order to get used to the climate and time zone
“I’m proud to be driving an Audi with Phoenix on the other side of the world! I don’t know Bathurst in real terms yet. But I’m familiar with the track from the PlayStation. Ever since my first virtual laps on this track I’ve been thrilled with Bathurst. Now the time has come for me to actually compete in the Audi R8 LMS, my absolute favorite. A dream is coming true! After three years the Audi R8 LMS is an advanced and stable car. The cornering dynamics and powerful brakes in particular will give us advantages on this winding track. I’m very excited about Australia. Our preparations in terms of track knowledge using onboard videos and our fitness training are running at full stretch. Hopefully we’ll manage to defend the
title on my first run at this event.”

Craig Lowndes (37/AUS), Audi R8 LMS #2 (Phoenix Racing)

Drove the fastest race lap at Bathurst last year
Started from the front position last year
“I’m happy to be returning to Bathurst with an Audi and fighting for victory again. The battle with our team-mates a year ago was fantastic. Our driver team only missed victory by a very small margin. It’ll be great to work with Warren and Mark again. The fact that we’ve driven together before is a great help. Perhaps that’ll put us ahead of the competition a bit. I’m also looking forward to the Audi R8 LMS. The car is wonderful. On a track like Bathurst, it seems like it’s exactly made for the winding sections up on the hill. The R8 LMS is a good-natured car. It allows you to run your stints in a gentle and consistent way. The competition will even be a lot tougher this year. But it’s not a sprint. You’ve got be in contention at the end. I’m expecting good chances for the three of us being able to make that happen.”

Warren Luff (35/AUS), Audi R8 LMS #2 (Phoenix Racing)

Achieved the best time in qualifying last year
Contested a race on the Nürburgring in the R8 LMS in May of 2011
“This year the Bathurst 12 Hours will be a much tougher battle than last year. I’m expecting us to have particularly strong rivals in the Ferrari 458 and the Mercedes SLS and a thrilling fight all the way to the end. But I expect our strongest opponents to be in our own team again. And I’m particularly looking forward to the updated version of the Audi R8 LMS. I’m excited to see how it’ll feel at Bathurst.”

Christopher Mies (22/D), Audi R8 LMS #1 (Phoenix Racing)

As 2009 FIA GT European Champion was among the first title winners in the Audi R8 LMS
Was already driving for Ernst Moser’s team back then
Is returning to Bathurst as last year’s winner
“After the successful race last year I’m happy to be able to run again. Bathurst is always worth a visit, the country and the track are unique. The Audi was the strongest car in the field last year. quattro GmbH has continued to develop it during the season. I believe that with the Audi R8 LMS and Team Phoenix Racing we’re the strongest pairing. Yet our rivals should not be underrated. The competition is becoming bigger and tougher. Our strongest opponents will likely come from our own ranks though – our Australian team-mates. Last year, they finished barely a second behind us. So that means we’ve got to give everything throughout the 12 hours.”

Darryl O’Young (31/HK), Audi R8 LMS #1 (Phoenix Racing)

After runs at Bathurst, the Nürburgring and Sepang has long become an expert in the Audi R8 LMS
Is returning to Bathurst as last year’s winner
Was nominated for the Hong Kong Sports Star Awards in January 2012
“Last year we had a sensational race in the battle with our Australian team-mates. But this year we’ll have additional competitors with various makes. The Audi R8 LMS is particularly strong on the fast sections on the hill and in the braking zones. The car can display its strengths really well on this circuit. The R8 LMS is pleasant to drive, which helps on a challenging track like Mount Panorama. I met our new teammate Christer Jöns at the Audi Sport Finale in Germany in 2011. The chemistry between us three drivers was great from the outset. And I’m looking forward to Phoenix Racing. I once drove for the squad in the DTM. We’ve got all the key elements to be in contention for victory again.”

“Available in both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions, the 4008 caters to all buyers in the market and, with competitive pricing we believe it has the ability to increase Peugeot sales by 20 per cent.’’

The all-new 4008 will enter one of the most competitive segments of the market in Australia with a price tag sub-30K.

Firmly rooted in the world of the SUV, the 4008 combines strength, power and driving safety in all circumstances. Thanks to its four-wheel drive, which is always available, it gives a feeling of freedom and greater peace of mind when driving.

Comfortable, compact and manoeuvrable, the 4008 SUV is also at home in the urban environment.

The Peugeot stylists wanted to give the 4008, born out of the PSA Group & Mitsubishi partnership, a strong personality firmly rooted in the world of the Marque.

All exterior panels, except the doors are unique to the 4008 and styled by Peugeot. The off-road character has been emphasised by adopting a vertical design of grille, the inclusion of body sill protectors and prominent wheel arch protection trims, to accommodate large wheels enhanced by the sophisticated design of the wheel rims.

The almost-horizontal bonnet grooves and the style line – which extends to the rear wing where it descends again crossing the lamp – are a distinctive feature and appear to hollow out along the body side, accentuating the strong and dynamic aspect of the 4008.

The interior ambiance is enhanced by the choice of materials, like the soft texture fascia, to the instrument panel visor and the lacquered black decoration of the centre console.

The Peugeot steering wheel is padded or leather trimmed and permits control of the audio functions, cruise control and Bluetooth hands-free kit.

The 4008 sits on the same size wheelbase as the 4007 but is 30cm shorter – measuring 4340mm in length, 1800mm in width and 1630mm in height.

Globally, there are four engines on offer – a 1.6-litre (86kW/152Nm) four cylinder petrol with a five-speed manual gearbox, a 2.0-litre (113kW/198Nm), four cylinder with a five-speed manual or CVT, a – 1.6-litre HDi (84kW/270Nm) – 280Nm with Overboost – mated to a six-speed manual and a 1.8-litre HDi (110kW/300Nm) four cylinder turbo diesel with a six-speed manual transmission.

To optimise consumption, the STOP & START system is available on both diesels and the 1.6-litre petrol.

With the 1.6-litre petrol and both HDi diesel engines, the 4008 achieves record environmental performance in the segment. From 119g/km of CO2 in 4X2 and 129g/km in 4X4 mode with the 1.6 HDi engine and from 135g/km with the 1.6-petrol engine, the 4008 is economical to run, particularly given its low consumption from 4.6L/100 km in 4X2 mode and 4.9L/100km in 4X4 mode.

Final Australian specification and pricing will be announced closer to the 4008’s on-sale date in June.

Mercedes-Benz this morning marked two world premieres at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, with the unveiling of the 2012 Silver Arrow, the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS F1 W03, and the first public sneak preview of the brand-new Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG. The new high-performance roadster, which develops 537 PS while delivering weight savings of 125 kg and 30% improved fuel economy, was introduced by Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher.

The new Silver Arrow, the F1 W03, has undergone an intensive programme of simulation testing at the team’s technical bases in Brackley and Brixworth. This was followed by a filming day limited to 100 kms at Silverstone on 16 February, and a private test day in Barcelona on 19 February, during which the car ran for 354 km. Michael and Nico shared driving duties on both days.

The new car concept is based on a largely stable set of technical regulations, which nevertheless include two significant changes: revision of the maximum bodywork height at the front of the car, which encouraged the distinctive stepped-nose design; and new restrictions concerning the positioning of the exhausts, designed to prevent the aerodynamic benefit gained from exhaust gases during 2011, the so-called ‘blown diffuser’.

The F1 W03 project was begun in May 2011 and is the first full car produced by a technical team that was strengthened last year with recruitments at every level of the organisation. The new car, which is composed of some 4500 parts compared to 4300 parts in 2011, has nevertheless achieved a lower core weight than its predecessor, is better packaged and more efficient. All mandatory FIA crash tests had been successfully completed at the first attempt by the end of the first week of January 2012.

“The F1 W03 is a car that I believe, and hope, our team can be proud of, and which will deliver the on-track results that everybody has worked so hard to achieve,” commented Team Principal Ross Brawn. “Notwithstanding the distinctive nose design, which is certainly an acquired taste, the F1 W03 is an elegant interpretation of the current regulations, and a clear step forward over its predecessor in terms of detail design and sophistication. Last year, we produced a very bold car and, although its more radical elements didn’t always deliver the results we had hoped for, the experience we gained has been invaluable to the design of the 2012 car. The F1 W03 is also a more integrated package, which reflects the ever-strengthening ties between our technical teams in Brackley and Brixworth, and demonstrates that our Silver Arrows works team is taking the next step forward in terms of on-track performance.”

Nico, who drove the first laps in the F1 W03 on 16 February in Silverstone, commented: “We have had a good start to our 2012 testing programme, and it was a great feeling to drive the first laps in the new F1 W03. The car looks good, and is very nicely packaged under the bodywork – all the parts are in harmony, which reflects how well the different departments of our team are working together. From the beginning of our running, we have been able to focus on understanding the car and making good progress with our test programme. It will be very interesting to learn more about where we stand in the next few weeks.”

Michael, who will complete the first full day of official testing with the new car today in Barcelona, commented: “I have done quite a few roll-outs and launches of new cars, but even after all these years, I must say it still feels special. Days like this are precious moments, as they are always filled with hope and anticipation. Already last week, when we were driving the F1 W03 for the very first time, it instantly gave us good feedback and sensations. Starting today, we will work intensively to make it a competitive runner. Obviously, we will only see over the next couple of weeks how big the step is that we have made, but I can say already that the guys and girls back in the factories at Brackley and Brixworth were brilliant in putting in so much effort, and we can only say a big thank you them. I know which reward they would like, and we will definitely try to deliver it. For my part, I am eager to fight again, looking forward to the new season, and I can’t wait for it to begin.”

Norbert Haug, Vice President, Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, concluded: “2012 will mark the third season for our Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrows works team, which was introduced in January 2010, and our target is to take a step forward in on-track performance. A lot of work has been done throughout the last year, not just to design the new car but also to build a technical organisation that is capable of delivering to its full potential, with consistency. Our ultimate goal is to become regular race winners and championship contenders, and so to write another chapter of success in the story of the Silver Arrows which began 78 years ago. Our target this year is to take another step forward on that road.”

Following the car’s launch this morning, the F1 W03 will complete eight full days of pre-season testing over the next two weeks at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.

Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia, said: “Just as our Forester and Outback pioneered new segments for Subaru in Australia, XV will do the same.

“It’s engineered to be tough, yet economical; sporty, yet comfortable; stylish, yet fun and it’s got genuine Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive credentials, which sets it apart from many faux wheel drives that offer promise but no punch when it comes to real handling ability and grip.

“XV cleverly offers both nimble driving and impressive environmental credentials.

“Fuji Heavy Industries have also paid close attention to some critical areas including interior quality, efficiency and exterior design. They’ve clearly scored in each category.

“The XV appeals to people who enjoy expansive lifestyles. People who are active and enjoy new experiences. They don’t want to drive a large SUV, instead they demand car like ride and handling, and convenient cutting edge technology, to enable a fast paced adventurous lifestyle with comfort.

“The XV meets all these needs, with the lowest centre of gravity in its class, combined with the highest ground clearance, delivering a driving experience which offers car like handling and SUV capability.
“Overlay that with Subaru’s undoubted safety credentials and you’ve got a truly formidable package that is about to give the market segment a major shake-up.

“XV is a clear indicator of what’s to come from Subaru in terms of new technology and design, so it’s fair to say we’re very excited about our future.”

The new generation XV line-up comprises:

XV 2.0i – with the choice of Lineartronic CVT or six-speed manual transmission
XV 2.0i-L – Adds dual zone air conditioning, factory-fitted satellite navigation, electric sunroof, leather steering wheel and gear knob, sliding centre console and rear privacy glass

Subaru celebrates the 40th anniversary of its signature Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (SAWD) system this year and will mark the occasion with a showcase at next month’s Geneva International Motor Show (March 8-18).

SAWD was introduced in 1972 on the Leone wagon in Japan. In the ensuing years, Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), the maker of Subaru vehicles, has hugely refined the technology.

Total production* of Subaru SAWD vehicles has reached 11,782,812 (as of January 31, 2012) – approximately 55.7% of Subaru vehicle total sales.

The SAWD system provides optimum traction by distributing engine power to all four wheels in a balanced manner.

SAWD combines with Subaru’s flat horizontally opposed Boxer engine to produce a perfectly symmetrical power train and low centre of gravity – the lack of major components sitting either side of the powertrain results in great balance, stability, response – and the driving fun for which Subarus are famed.

Continuous research and development over 40 years has refined the SAWD technology, making the system ideal for a wide variety of conditions, from rough roads to rain and snow.

The latest technology includes four-wheel traction management, giving firm and accurate grip to all four wheels, all the time.

SUBARU SYMMETRICAL ALL-WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEMS

Variable Torque Distribution (VTD)-AWD: Electronically controlled sporty AWD for enhanced turning performance

A compact AWD system that combines the centre differential with an electronically controlled hydraulic multiple-disc clutch Limited Slip Differential (LSD), using the planetary gear. The 45:55 front:rear torque distribution is continuously variable, using a multiple disc clutch LSD. Torque distribution is controlled automatically up to an equal 50:50 front:rear ratio to suit road surface conditions, for superb stability. By distributing torque with an emphasis on the rear wheels, turning performance is enhanced, providing aggressive and sporty driving.

Active torque split AWD: Electronically controlled AWD for enhanced fuel efficiency and stability

Subaru’s original electronically controlled Multi Plate Transfer (MPT) adjusts torque distribution to the front and rear wheels in real-time, to suit driving conditions. The system usually distributes torque 60:40 front:rear. It maximizes the benefits of AWD by providing stability and safety, regardless of the driver’s skill in any driving situation.

Viscous centre differential AWD: Mechanical AWD for manual transmissions

The system is a combination of the bevel-gear-type centre differential and the viscous LSD. A 50:50 front:rear torque distribution is set under normal conditions. It delivers stable and sporty driving that always maximizes available traction.

Multi-mode Driver Control Centre Differential AWD: Performance-directed AWD

The electronically controlled DCCD AWD system employs a combination of torque sensing mechanical LSD and electronically controlled LSD. It provides a performance-oriented 41:59 front:rear torque distribution for optimum vehicle dynamics control. The mechanical LSD has a quicker response and activates just before the electronic LSD. While managing large torque, the system demonstrates the highest balance between agility and stability. There is the choice of automatic LSD control modes and manual mode, which the driver can select according to conditions.

*Including the productions of part-time 4WD vehicles

Mazda Australia today confirmed that CX-5 models powered by the new 2.2 litre SKYACTIV-D clean diesel engine will deliver class-leading combined cycle fuel economy of just 5.7 litres per 100km.

As the first Mazda to feature the full range of the company’s new SKYACTIV Technology, the CX-5 not only delivers fuel efficiency like never before but also incredible driving dynamics.

In addition to delivering class-leading fuel-efficiency, the new 2.2 litre SKYACTIV-D engine also provides drivers with a class-leading 420Nm of torque and 129kW of power.

These figures put the new CX-5 in a league of its own when compared to the best-selling SUV’s in Australia, with CX-5 beating all-comers on both fuel efficiency and torque.

With diesel-powered CX-5s mated to All-Wheel Drive and the new SKYACTIV-Drive automatic transmission Mazda is delighted to offer a diesel automatic combination in Australia for the first time.

“We’ve been keen to add a diesel engine with an automatic transmission to our range for quite some time. The development of the CX-5 and our new SKYACTIV Technology has given us this opportunity and, quite frankly, we can’t wait to get it here,” said Mazda Australia national marketing manager Alastair Doak.

“There’s certainly demand for a diesel automatic combination, particularly in the SUV segment and with the right powertrain combinations, plus all-new technology and design we’re confident that CX-5 has the goods to become one of Australia’s most popular SUVs.”

In addition to new SKYACTIV engines and transmissions, the CX-5 also features Mazda’s new SKYACTIV body and chassis for improved dynamics and safety.

The CX-5 is also the first Mazda production car to feature the KODO: Soul of Motion design language previously showcased on the Minagi concept.

Isuzu UTE Australia (IUA) has renewed its partnership with one of Australia’s hottest entertainment acts – the ‘ShowTime FMX Freestyle Moto X Team’.

Formed in 1999, the team performed their first show at the Royal Canberra Show with just three mounds of dirt. Since then, they have cemented their position as the most spectacular main arena act in the country – and with an average of 250 performances a year – they are the most experienced Freestyle Moto X team in Australia.

“The ShowTime FMX boys pull a crowd wherever they go, and more importantly their performances are geared towards a younger demographic which is a segment of the market we are in hot pursuit of,” said Dave Harding – IUA’s Senior Public Relations Manager.

“This partnership – like several others we will roll out this year – will help expose the D-MAX brand to a new generation and our aim is to pick up a few fans of our own along the way,” he added.

The deal with Isuzu UTE Australia sees the team kitted out with a variety of customised D-MAX models to help them cart their bikes, ramps and mechanics across the nation – in style.

“We are very excited to be continuing our relationship with Isuzu D-MAX,” said Gary Reid, Director of ShowTime FMX.

“Over the last two years we have travelled over 180,000km in our team D-MAXs and they have been great … they look great, go great and handle the tough times our team gives them … they suit all our needs including towing our new wakeboard boat and enclosed car trailer,” Reid added.

To kick the year off the team headed to Mulwala on the Murray River (NSW/VIC border) for their Summer Carnival. It was the 10th year that the team had performed at this event with FMX showbags selling out after the second performance and over 1500 team posters signed!

So make sure you keep an eye in the sky (and now on the road!) for the Showtime FMX boys who will no doubt be coming to a town near you soon.

Have you always wanted to own a Jaguar but never got around to doing it. Maybe it’s time to take an opportunity and check out Shannons on the 20th February. For all you car enthusiasts and specifically Jaguar enthusiasts, you might be interested to know that Shannons has a number of Jaguars available on that day. A chance to buy history.
The top cat in the pride of ‘53 is a fastidiously built and detailed re-creation of a Le Mans factory C-Type racing roadster that has covered just 500 shakedown miles since its completion in 2003 and would cost in excess of $250,000 to reproduce today.
Based on exact measurements taken from an original 1953 C-Type that was in New Zealand for restoration some years ago, the one-owner vehicle is the second of seven recreated C-Types built by a well-known New South Wales restoration specialist. It is expected to sell in the $150,000-$180,000 range.
The C-Type recreation is backed up in the auction by two stunning Australian-delivered XK120 sports models – a Roadster and a rare Fixed Head Coupe.
Dispatched from the factory in November 1953 to Dominion Motors of Adelaide, the black XK120 is believed to be the second last XK120 Roadster delivered to Australia. It was sold in January,1954 to Shoe Retailer Blacks Ltd – appropriately given its colour, for use by the firm’s principal, Royston Black.
As a late XK120, it has a number of XK140 features such as the front parking lights being integral with the front mudguards.
The Factory original car with its red and cream leather interior was laid up for approximately 35 years before receiving a meticulous restoration to standard specifications over a 10 year period from 2000-2010. It is expected to attract bids in the $100,000-$120,000 range.
Similarly fitted with the desirable Factory wire wheel option, the Bordeaux Red Fixed Head XK120 Coupe is the actual car displayed at the 1954 Sydney Motor Show and was subsequently sold new by Bryson Industries Ltd to Reliance Trading in August 1954.
It is believed to be one of just 14 XK120 FHCs sold new in Australia and is number 177 of 194 built by the Factory in right hand drive.
When the car was restored in 1990, its original cream with red trim was replaced by the current Bordeaux red (a Jaguar colour) with cream leather interior. However the 3.4-litre DOHC engine is a later S-Type unit fitted with correct XK120 ancillaries including oil filter, sump starter and generator. The original unrestored XK120 cylinder head also comes with the vehicle.
It is expected to sell in the $66,00-$76,000 range at Shannons Sydney Summer Auction.
Enthusiasts of Jaguar’s evergreen MkII Saloon models also have two interesting cars to choose from at the same auction – a modified British Racing Green with chrome wire wheels 1963 3.8 Manual Saloon and a White and very original 1969 2.4 Automatic.
The Factory 3.8 MkII Manual has been in the same owner’s hands for the past 20 years and has been enhanced professionally to ‘Coombs’ specification by Sydney marque specialist Graeme Lord.
This has included a full engine rebuild with triple SU carburettors, an upgraded oil system, forged pistons, head work and stainless steel extractors and matching driveline enhancements including LSD, Koni shock absorbers, upgraded brakes and a lightened flywheel.
Shannons is quoting a conservative guiding range of $40,000-$48,000.
Alternatively, Shannons is offering a 1969 Jaguar MkII 240 Saloon that was delivered new through Bryson Industries in Sydney whose custodian of the past 20 years is believed to be the car’s second owner.
The well maintained and cared for Jaguar comes with a complete service history dating back to 1991 and the car also comes with a Haynes workshop manual and the original service maintenance book. It is expected to sell in the $10,000-$15,000 range.
